Hifi规则- 和我们何时该打破它们(WhatHiFiSound+Vision)
器材制造企业能够不停地推出值得我们期待的产品，但是这些产品的测试工作只是在特定的环境中进行的，因此生厂商会推荐我们比较通用的“安全”设置方法，这些方法确实值得我们记住并应用但是它并不是约束我们的强制性的规则。
就像是十多年前的情况一样：那时如果我们配置或安装一套器材，那么我们则需要严格遵循摆放位置、使用特定的线材、把旋钮调到特定的模式、咖啡桌的种类甚至是在房间内不要安装电话，只有电视等等“规则”。
现在，一切都变了。 如果单线的声音效果好于双线分音的效果，那么我们就选择单线；如果您喜欢最高声部或者是用插满线的音响背部对着您,那也没问题。再有您如果有兴趣照样可以把低音弄得很高，谁在乎呢！当然了这一切的前提就是您是为了听到您更喜欢的声音。
我曾经处理过这样一个情况：这是一个非常困难的调音过程，我们使用的是非常优秀的（也是很贵的）扬声器与其连接的也是非常好的前级功放和cd播放机。尽管如此声音还是不能很好的表现和成像，根本没有给我们那种现场感，并且低沉的隆隆声使我们几乎疯狂，经过我们调整大、开敞房间内沙发边上的音响位置也没起到太好的效果。我们尝试了所有的位置, 试验过的移动他们到墙壁, 但是到没有用。；移动他们到和沙发后……居然都没有用。 新的功放? 新的电缆? 不…..天呢我感觉我都不行了….
后来我们用一些东西将音箱向上垫高了20cm，这样使比较低的高音单元发出的声音被沙发很好的吸收，然后我们用毛巾掩住了壁炉口直到后来我们用声学泡沫进行了替换达到了较好效果, 并且我们也在音箱上安装了防止震动的脚钉。
结果? 所有参与的人都笑了，但是他们仍然对这么高级的产品的表现不满意，后来我使用双线代替了单线，与此同时使保留单线连接高音（而不是按照说明书上的那样连接低音），这样做后我们得到了更多的细节和活力。
因此我永远建议hifi玩家们忠告自己的耳朵。 当然您一定地在看清说明书后进行这种工作，否则如果您超出产品保证的范围那么也许您的不正当操作会使您被电击或者使器材损坏。再让我强调一下：如果它听起来很好 , 那么则正确地做。
再hifi之路上有上千个这样的故事，这只是其中之一。
Hi-fi rules - and when to break them
It's easy to expect hi-fi manufacturers to get it right all the time, but even the most conscientious will only have listened to their products in a relatively small number of system combinations and rooms. So while the manual that comes with your new piece of kit will give you important safety and care advice, it's worth remembering that it's not the law.
The old idea of there being one true way to install a system was popular ten or more years back. You had to buy just the right stands, place your speakers just so with a particular cable connecting them to the amp, put your turntable on a specific model of mass-market coffee-table and so on. Oh and not have a telephone, let alone a TV set, in the same room.
Now, things have changed. If single-wired sounds better to you than biwired, stick with it. If you prefer the treble with the grilles on, or both speakers wired back to front, that's fine too. And if you really want to crank that active sub up higher than we would, who cares? Not us, certainly: it's your music.
It's something we proved to ourselves recently when confronted with a thorny tuning problem. What greeted us was a pair of well-respected (and expensive) floorstanding speakers, used with good pre-power amplification and a fine CD source and reasonably cabled.
Yet it wasn't imaging, wasn't giving any sense of having a singer standing in the room, and booming like crazy. Oh, and not helped by being placed either side of a sofa in a large open-plan room.
We tried adjusting the position, tried moving them out from the walls, but to no avail. Move them in and they almost disappeared behind the sofa; move them out and it was foghorn time again. New amp? New cables? Nah...
So we jacked them up on some 20cm stands the owners found in their loft, thus getting the low-mounted tweeters clear of that nice absorbent sofa. Then we stuffed tea-towels into the rear-firing ports until we could source some proper foam to do the trick, and gave the cabinets quite a lot of toe-in.
The result? Smiles all round from the owners - well, they're still not too happy with the looming presence of the elevated speakers, but we'll sort that some time - and at last some imaging and sense of reality. Enough to work on when they try biwire cables in place of the single-wire stuff they're using.
Meanwhile the single-wire links stay in place, although we connected the cable to the treble terminals on the speakers (not the bass as the manual suggested) to bring out more detail and sparkle.
So the advice is to play it by ear. Of course you must take heed of anything in the manual that says 'do this or you'll electrocute yourself' or 'don't do this or the product won't be covered by the guarantee'. But beyond that, however unusual a set-up may seem, if it sounds good you're doing it right.
